Do You Know The Secret?

The president and CEO of the company my husband rep's for, in a recent sales meeting, recommended this book to everyone at the meeting. According to my husband, he told them that everyone should read this book and that everyone they know should read this book. He also openly professes to be a Christian.

Following the sales meeting, my husband and his regional manager stopped at local book store and picked up a copy of The Secret. I never saw or heard of the movie that was created first, so when the book made its way home with my husband, I was completely unfamiliar with what it was all about.

When he returned home from his trip, I saw the book on top of his brief case and I picked it up. I must commend the marketing team that worked on this book project. They did an excellent job designing and packaging this book. It emits visual intrigue and mystery. Upon opening the book to examines its contents, the intrigue continues page after page.

Needless to say, my husband didn't get to read the book first as I couldn't put it down. It makes for a great read and generates profound thought. However, I disagree with its self-centered, all-about-me theme and it wreaks of New Age and narcissism. I reject the "Genie in the Bottle" theory and the materialistic baiting of the reader. Outside of that, the laws of attraction and other scientific supported theory provide great food for thought. I do, however, continue to research the concept of our own "atomic energy" working within us and I subscribe to the theory of the power of the energy we hold. All living things are comprised of molecules; within molecular structure are atoms; within atoms: atomic energy. Just think about that for a moment.

Reviews on Amazon.com state that this is just a millennial re-write of The Power of Positive Thinking. I have never read The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale, but I suspect many of those who contributed to this literary project may have. A long time friend of mine read The Power of Positive Thinking back in the '80's and it had a profound impact on her. She remains an upbeat and positive person to this day.

Standing firmly grounded in your faith, I recommend this read.
