When You Least Expect It

In loving memory:

Dear Aunt Ruby,

I want to thank you for always putting up with my pestery phone calls these years that have passed all too quickly. You have always been willing to listen to me go on and on about the nothings of politics in the news – not to mention my soap box moments of what’s wrong in America, and have always been willing to laugh at my silly thoughts about our family and
Life.

I don’t think I will ever forget our endless analyzing of the “wardrobe malfunction” of the Super Bowl just a few years back. You were right: what was that all about?

When you least expect it, someone listens and that someone was always you.

When you least expect it, someone respects your opinion and that someone was always you.

When you least expect it, someone willingly answers the phone (without the need for caller I.D. screening…) and that person was you.

When you least expect it, someone becomes your very best girlfriend. And at 93, that someone was you.

I will miss you, Aunt Ruby, especially the long phone calls to talk about nothing – and yet everything at the same time.

Tell everybody I said to “behave” and save my seat for me.

Love,
Harriette

For those of you taking the time to read here know this: it is a privilege to have the elders of our life – in our life. They are our greatest source of wisdom and they cherish the time we invest in their lives – even if it is just a phone call to pass the time.
